Fermentation Associate

We are seeking a Fermentation Associate to provide support to our Fermentation team.  This position requires a B.S. degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field and experience in a microbiology laboratory.  The candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining fermentors and related equipment, and preparing and sterilizing fermentation media, buffers and solutions. 

       Qualifications:

    • Requires a B.S. degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry or related field
    • Experience operating laboratory equipment:  balance, pH meter, magnetic stirrer, volumetric glassware, pipettes, autoclave
    • Experience operating fermentation equipment desirable
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills

       Essential Responsibilities:

    • Operates laboratory-scale fermentation equipment
    • Prepares fermentation media and related buffers and solutions
    • Supports compilation of fermentation data
    • Maintains fermentation equipment and a safe and orderly laboratory to ensure compliance with all safely policies and practices

Bioinformatics Scientist

We are seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to support our microbial metabolic pathway engineering programs. 

Qualifications: Candidates must have at least a Ph.D. in Computational Biology or related field and a minimum of 2 years postdoctoral experience with genome annotation, protein engineering and/or metabolic pathway modeling.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be essential to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary research team.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and advance comprehensive bioinformatics platform to support our metabolic engineering programs, including synthetic gene design and protein engineering algorithms, metabolic pathway models, statistical analyses and process modeling software
  • Annotate the genome sequences of proprietary microorganisms
  • Construct genome-scale metabolic models from annotated genome sequence information
  • Maintain and advance current metabolic models to evaluate metabolic networks, identify gaps, predict targets for pathway optimization and simulate the effect of genetic modifications
  • Work with IT department to establish and maintain a LIMS linking company-wide molecular biology, fermentation and analytical chemistry databases
  • Integrate publically-available genomic tools, with custom in-house bioinformatics platform
  • Establish algorithms for automated high-throughput screening of recombinant microbes
